Introduction
An attack on you or your alliance is not an attack sanctioned by the ATLANTIS. If we intend to start war, we will have tried diplomacy, first, and then placed a declaration of war on the diplomacy boards. With that said, we do not encourage our members to attack actives, but we also do not deny them the right to play the game as they see fit, with the proviso that they must accept the consequences of their actions.
Exclusions
The only exclusions on targets are actives in the alliances we have official peace treaties, MDP's, and NAP's with. Under These given cases, we consider inactives “fair game.”
Further Details
If one of our members does attack an active player, their alliance is free to deal with the offending member without fear of ATL involvement, as long as the retaliation can be considered fair. This includes making a deal with the player to no longer attack an alliance, demanding reparations(until it does not lead to Pushing), blockading their ports and a retaliatory strike against their towns. If the Criteria of Excessive Retaliation are met, ATL reserves the right to defend our member to the fullest extent possible.
This means that our players are free to pillage actives and other alliances, but they accept full responsibility for their actions. If an alliance decides to retaliate, the aggressor must bear the consequences with no help from ATL, provided the retaliating alliance honors the concept of fairness.
Criteria of Excessive Retaliation
We recognize your right to retaliate for the attack on you, but we believe that the retaliation shouldn't be excessive. ATL will get involved if we feel that a retaliation on our member is excessive and is out of proportion, or if we cannot trust your intentions.
We consider your retaliation excessive if:
* There are more retaliating attacks than initial attacks, over the same period of time.
* The retaliation is not proportional to the original conflict.
* Retaliation comes from other than the pirated player's alliance.
* Retaliation occurs 2 weeks after the initial attack.
We would appreciate if:
* You are able to share combat reports and other evidence when asked.
* You promptly respond to messages from our officers requesting information.
We may find your wish to retaliate unreasonable if the defenses of your player were not up to Lambda standard in Military and/or Spy defense. The 'proportional retaliation' refers to Military/Generals Scores and not necessarily to Total Scores.
Further Notes
Please contact our Diplomat and inform him/her that a retaliation is happening against our member. It is required to keep the events from escalating to a war due to mis-communication. You may also contact our Diplomat to request more retaliating players and/or alliances, but the decision is ultimately up to our Diplomat to decide what is fair.
If you need clarification on any of these points, please contact our Diplomat.
